10 Great Questions for Leading Engaging Pre-Task Planning Conversations

In a previous article, we mentioned our conversation with Dr. Kimberly Tanner and her three tips for how to increase engagement and retention in a daily safety planning conversation—taken from her work researching this subject with educators.
One of those suggestions is about making sure you have the order of your activities planned correctly.
Most folks start their Daily Safety Planning Conversation off by reading or sharing critical information about the day’s work. Afterward, they ask if anyone has any questions.
But in truth, Dr. Tanner’s research indicates that you will get a much higher level of engagement from your team in conversations if you simply flip that order.
Meaning, start with a question first—then share whatever it is you need to share after.

This all sounds easy enough, but in practice, I’ve observed that most people find it hard to think of great questions to ask first thing in the morning.
